Ocean Jewell – 1041 Ocean Blvd

Ocean Jewell - 1041 Ocean Blvd

4 Bedrooms 3 Bathrooms Sleeps 8

If you are seeking an authentic, vintage, and classically cool St. Simons Island experience, Ocean Jewell is the cottage for you. Built from locally milled heart pine in 1937, this historic home has beautiful heart pine wood floors, a parlor, grand living room, a bright kitchen, three bedrooms in the main house and one in the attached carriage house. It can host up to 8 people.

THE SPACE
Ocean Jewell comes with a newly remodeled well equipped kitchen, stainless steel appliances, and an oak dining table to seat eight (and up to ten). The house is built with an entire heart pine shiplap interior; this is the shiplap before shiplap was cool. Two bedrooms upstairs (one King/ two Queens) and one bedroom downstairs (one Queen), with full bathrooms and glass enclosed showers both up and down.

A separate carriage house, or “Bird House” provides a quiet getaway with one Queen bed bed, and full bath with shower. Also equipped with it’s own refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker, and sitting areas ideal for the in laws, young couple with baby, or anyone seeking a more private experience from the group.

Guests can rinse off sandy feet and enjoy the outdoor shower with hot and cold water. Enjoy the breezy gardens and shaded paths that encircle the home. The entire home is enclosed in privacy fencing with three gate entrances, and dusk to dawn lanterns lighting paths; providing a safe & private retreat from passersby on the sidewalk and Ocean Boulevard traffic. Upstairs on the covered patio guests can relax with a horizon ocean view while you sip coffee or enjoy afternoon cocktails. Check ocean conditions while enjoying the light sea breezes rustling the Spanish moss dripping & swaying from the live oak trees spanning the grounds.

Watch movies on the flat screen in the living room, play games on the dining room table available from the games closet, or relax in the sun parlor with a Golden Isles publication, or local history books found around the home. Find peaceful moments in the sunroom while the morning sun illuminates the azalea gardens.

A touch of chinoiserie coastal style gives hint to the post-war influences of the home as it aged into its existence. The home’s interior walls are filled with renowned regional artists’ work; original oils of coastal salt marshes, maritime life, and even several salty sea captains. Antique splashes intermingle with the modern interior and furnishings.

Ocean Jewell Cottage is in the heart of the historic Ocean Breeze neighborhood and is one of the original preserved neighborhoods built on the island. Imagine a time when you would arrive at the Ocean Jewell riding in a Ford Model T on the newly constructed 1930s era F.J. Torras Causeway linking the mainland to St. Simons Island. Did you know about the island’s role in WWII? German U-boats once prowled the coastline just in front of the home during the war. The King and Prince Hotel, an easy jaunt down the street, was originally a dance club built just a few years prior to Ocean Jewell in 1935.

Cycle and walk to Pier Village or head the other way to East Beach or Coast Guard Beach. The home faces the 3rd Street Boardwalk (Public Beach Access 17) to what is considered “locals beach”. This stretch of beach has shoreline walking distance in both directions. Grab a to go cup, let yourself out of the gated grounds; and you are within walking distance to local restaurant favorites Crab Daddy’s, The Crab Trap, Fiddler’s, Three Little Birds, The Nest, Porch, and Georgia Sea Grill, to name a few award-winning favorite local spots, as well as the Lighthouse.

Welcome to Ocean Jewell!

This home does not host pets.

Located on the south end of the Island, St. Simons Pier Village district serves as the downtown social hub and is a popular destination for shopping, dining and gathering on the pier and nearby lighthouse, playground and picnic areas. Overlooking the ocean and Jekyll Island across the way, you'll find the St. Simons Lighthouse and Museum, Neptune Park with its ocean side pool and facilities, playground, miniature golf course, and an oak shaded picnic area, fishing pier, public library and theater.

As with any historic home, guests may notice differences from a newly built property. Fabulous

by Lara
The house was perfect for our family of 8. Grandparents stayed in the guest house. Mom, Dad and 4 kids stayed in the main house. Everyone had plenty of room. The house was beautifully decorated. The location was great. We could walk to the park, village and restaurants and the beach access was across the street.

It's in a great location, only a block from the beach. It's peaceful and quiet. We had a fantastic time. You can walk or bike to great restaurants, go shopping, and play pickleball!

This house worked great for our group of friends. The home is old and a bit cluttered with decor but still very cozy and tastefully renovated. It was a great base for exploring St. Simmons Island. There are many things that are walkable from this home including the beach which is across the road and the quaint downtown shops, restaurants, pier, and lighthouse. The deck on the second floor has an ocean view and a wonderful spot for coffee in the in the morning. Be aware that it is only accessible through one of the bedrooms which was only an issue when someone was still sleeping. The backyard was beautifully landscaped and was a nice place to relax. I would definitely stay here again.

We loved this house. It was quaint and homey. It was also a great location, very short walk to the beach. It was centrally located on the island so we were close to a variety of shops and restaurants. Would definitely recommend to friends and would return if our travels bring us back to SSI.

Our family had the most wonderful stay at the Ocean Jewell in St. Simons, GA. This is the perfect house for families who need extra room for growing kids and want to spend quality time with each other without smothering or being smothered. It is clean, beautifully decorated, in the perfect location, and has everything you would ever need on your family vacation!

Our older twin boys stayed in the back house/studio (aka Birdhouse), with their own bathroom, television, and mini fridge. They loved having their independence while we loved still knowing their whereabouts. Need I say more?

The main house is truly a gem. The decor is vintage, chic and antique all wrapped up in a sophisticated coastal theme. The newly renovated kitchen has everything you would ever need for cooking or entertaining and there is also a gas grill right outside on the back porch should you choose to go that route. The bedrooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, giving everyone a place to unwind and cozy up with a book or take a cat nap after a long morning spent in the sun.

Location, location, location! It is about a 4-minute walk to the beach, so it is easy to come and go throughout the day. It is a quick bike ride to the village/pier where we would go to the Neptune Park Playground or make an ice cream run after grilling out at home. Other nights we would walk over a few blocks to some of the family friendly restaurants right there in the neighborhood. To top it all off, the house is gated, so while you are in a prime location, you still feel safe. It is such a relief to know your children can play in the yard without having to worry about them running into the street.

I honestly could go on and on about this house. If you are looking for a place for your family to enjoy a relaxing week at the beach, look no further. The Ocean Jewell is truly an ocean jewel!!!

The pictures do not do this house justice, it's gorgeous! We loved this house! We had 7 for our stay, a mixture of couples and singles. We never felt on top of each other. It was nice there were multiple outdoor spaces to spend time in. Multiples of towels for all of us and the beds were comfy. The AC is comfortable in both spaces, the shower pressure and shower water heat is great. Steps from the beach and walkable to restaurants which we loved. House is quiet and parking is plentiful. The deposit process was a bit out of the ordinary for me for Airbnb but then stepping into the Airbnb it made complete sense. This was unlike any Airbnb I've stayed in. It's a highly decorated, delicate home owned by a family. Overall it felt like a curated Nancy Meyers movie home. It was perfect. Would love to stay here again! Ryan was a great host and answered all my questions promptly as well. Thank you so much.

Oh, we had so much fun staying here. The Ocean Jewell has so many places to enjoy both inside and outside. Just off the big family room, there's a pretty room filled with windows for a game or for reading a book. The different patios offer shade or sun, whatever you want. This place is so fresh and clean and its easy to move around. The yard completely lined with hedges or fencing all around is so lovely. I enjoy my morning coffee right off the main bedroom overlooking the view of the surf so near. And, gosh, just an easy stroll to the beach for sunsets, too. Love the look of history in this big, 1930s, comfy vacation home. Coming back soon! Thank you for a memorable stay for our whole family.

Thank you Mary, it was great hosting you!

This home is exquisite with original art and oil paintings, many of them about the island and culture. It is a cozy vacation home. My family all slept well on firm, new beds with all new bedding. The kitchen and bathrooms are in top shape, new appliances. We loved the wooden floors and windows in this 1930s home beautifully maintained. We want to live here! The house is walking distance to the island shops and restaurants. It has upstairs porch views of the ocean. It's just steps from the ocean. It's for everyone and we enjoyed it so much, cooking on the grill outside and relaxing inside and out, watching movies in the spacious living room at night. I hope the owners know how much we appreciate every detail in hospitality provided. Thank you. Lydia C.

Thank you Lydia!

Beach Gear Included!: This home offers beach gear such as beach chairs and beach towels FREE for your use! Bikes, carts, paddleboards and more are available for rent locally, discount included. There are no fees or surchages attached to your reservation.

Legacy Collection: This home is part of our Legacy Collection, a celebrated group of St. Simons Island's original beach cottages. Built in the 1930s and 1940s, these homes have been thoughtfully restored to preserve their historic character while offering modern comforts while preserving the architectural charm that makes them unique. What makes these cottages special are the features that can't be replicated in new construction—unique floor plans, original architectural details, cozy room proportions, and the charm that comes from decades of island history. As with any historic home, guests may notice differences from a newly built property. Rooms, closets, and bathrooms may be smaller, floors and walls may show the character of age, and the layout may reflect a different era of coastal living. Rather than the perfection of a new home, these cottages offer an authentic St. Simons experience filled with warmth, personality, and timeless appeal. If you appreciate history, character, and coastal nostalgia, we invite you to enjoy this special home.
