This seafaring festival traces its origins to a Portuguese tradition that began in 1938 to commemorate the first appearance of The Blessed Virgin to three children near the town of Fatima\, Portugal on May 13\, 1917. \nThe Annual Blessing of the Fleet will take place at the Darien waterfront park. SUMMARY:Southeast Georgia Health System Bridge Run
DESCRIPTION:An Annual Tradition\nThe Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation Bridge Run has become a signature event for the Health System and the Golden Isles. Unique among bridge runs\, the races take place on the 7\,780-foot Sidney Lanier Bridge. At its center\, the bridge measures 480 feet high above the Brunswick River\, the tallest span in the state. \nCertified by the U.S. Track and Field Association as the toughest 5K in Georgia\, each year 5K runners start on the southbound side of the bridge\, go over\, and return back\, crossing the bridge twice. The event is not for the timid\, and should only be attempted by those who have properly trained. \nThe Bridge Run also includes a fun walk after the race is over\, followed by a family-friendly festival featuring community vendors\, food and drink\, entertainment and children’s activities. Proceeds benefit the Health System’s cancer and cardiac care programs.

SUMMARY:Jekyll Island Treasures
DESCRIPTION:This two-month-long annual event on Jekyll Island is a favorite tradition spawned from a fishing legacy. \nIn the early 1900s\, east coast fishermen used hollow glass balls\, or floats\, on their nets as markers. Occasionally\, the floats would break loose and wash ashore for lucky beachcombers to find and keep. Collecting these rare\, highly sought after glass floats became a hobby in the 1950s. \nToday\, Jekyll Island hand-picks artists from across the country to create one-of-a-kind glass floats for its annual Island Treasures event. \nThe glass floats are part of a hide-and-seek style game played on Jekyll Island throughout January and February. Each day\, volunteers called Beach Buddies hide glass floats around the island for lucky guests to find and keep. \nEach float is marked with a special tag and instructions for treasure finders to register their Island Treasures at the Jekyll Island Guest Information Center where they will receive a certificate of authenticity and artist biography for their one-of-a-kind float. The Center is open Monday-Saturday\, 9am – 6pm and Sunday 10am – 5pm.

DESCRIPTION:Come out to Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation for Ophelia’s Classic Car Challenge and Fall Festival. Classic cars from all over southeast Georgia will be on hand all day vying for the championship in the 10th annual car show. Come and view the cars\, vote for your favorite and then tour a historic rice plantation. Presented by Friends of Hofwyl and Classic Coastal Cruisers automobile club. If you would like to enter your car there is a $20.00 registration fee. Call for more information. \nIn addition to the car show the park will also be hosting a Harvest Season Scavenger Hunt for kids of all ages. A basket weaver and fabric weaver will demonstrate their skills. Farm fresh vegetables and our cookbook\, Meals and Memories of Hofwyl Plantation will be for sale at the fall festival. A food truck\, “Country Boy Cooking” will be available at the site for your convenience as you enjoy the cars\, the festival\, and the park. \nHofwyl-Broadfield Plantation is owned and operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. DESCRIPTION:Come out and enjoy two of our favorite things on St.Simons Island. Grab some oysters that have been hand-shucked\, and help raise money for the St. Simons Land Trust’s annual fundraiser. This event has taken place for over twenty years and is one of the most popular events on the island. Join the community and enjoy live music and entertainment\, unforgettable coastal cuisine\,  and of course drinks provided by restaurants and partners from all across Glynn County. \nThe event takes place on Saturday\, January 22\, 2022\, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 Pm in Gascoigne Bluff Park on St. Simons Island\, GA.  Tickets are $75.00 for members and $95.00 for non-members. The proceeds from the oyster roast go towards maintaining more than 1\,000 acres in our trust. St. Simons Island prides itself on preserving and protecting the natural and scening character of St. Simons for its current residents and for future residents and visitors.

SUMMARY:Hofwyl-Broadfield 41st Annual Christmas Tour
DESCRIPTION:Visitors will walk through centuries old live oaks and be treated to a guided tour of the 1850’s plantation home\, specially decorated for Christmas. Several period dressed interpreters will share stories of the plantations past. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. \nHistory buffs will enjoy Company A\, 26th Georgia Volunteer Infantry and other units as they re-enact a pre-Civil War muster of the Glynn County Guards and Brunswick Rifles militia units. You will have the opportunity to see cannon and musket firings as well as demonstrations of camp life. \nAfter touring the house enjoy hot wassail (a spiced Christmas punch) prepared over an open fire in an authentic cast iron pot. \n$8 for adults\, $5 for youth (6-17)\, children 5 and under are free. \nThis program requires pre-registration\, as space will be limited\, and social distancing will be required. There will be hourly tours beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation State Historic Site\, 5556 US Highway 17N.\, Brunswick. Located at intersection of US17 and GA99\, one mile east of I-95 exit 42.
