SUMMARY:BAKERSFIELD MIST
DESCRIPTION:BAKERSFIELD MIST \nBy Stephen Sachs \nMaude\, a fifty-something unemployed bartender living in a trailer park\, has bought a painting for a few bucks from a thrift store. Despite almost trashing it\, she’s now convinced it’s a lost masterpiece by Jackson Pollock worth millions. But when world-class art expert Lionel Percy flies over from New York and arrives at her trailer home in Bakersfield to authenticate the painting\, he has no idea what he is about to discover. Inspired by true events\, this hilarious and thought-provoking new comedy-drama asks vital questions about what makes art and people truly authentic. \n“Sachs’ short\, clever play is a battle of wits.” \n—NY Times. \n “A triumph! Hugely gratifying! An absorbing\, hilarious two-hander about the nature of art and the vagaries of human perception.” —Backstage. \nSaturdays October 3\, 10\, 17 at 8 pm \nSundays\, October 4\, 11\, 18 at 3 pm \n(doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain) \nDesserts/Coffees/Tea \nserved before the show. \nIf at home for video viewing\, you may \npick up a goody bag at the theatre (curbside) \nthe day before performance \nbetween 2 pm and 5 pm. \nIn person $25 per person \nVideo Link $20 per person \nRESERVATIONS: (912) 230-1042

SUMMARY:40TH ANNUAL HOFWYL PLANTATION CHRISTMAS
DESCRIPTION:Visitors will walk along the illuminated path under centuries old oaks and will be treated to a guided tour of the antebellum rice plantation.  Enter the front door of the decorated plantation home where members of the Glynn County Garden Club Council will treat visitors to beautifully holiday decorated rooms and period dressed interpreters will share stories of the plantation. \n  \nHistory buffs will enjoy Company A\, 26th Georgia Volunteer Infantry and other units as they re-enact a pre-Civil War muster of the Glynn County Guards and Brunswick Rifles militia units.   You will have the opportunity to see cannon firings which shoot flames over 100 feet from the barrels.  Step back to the mid-1800s as the re-enactors demonstrate camp life. \n  \nWhile strolling around the plantation\, enjoy hot wassail and cookies as you listen to live musicians playing holiday music and singing Christmas carols.  Also\, Santa Claus has agreed to make a special appearance during both nights.  Santa will be sitting by a cozy fireplace as he talks with the young ones; guests are welcome to take pictures of Santa and the children in his specially decorated room.

SUMMARY:Lighthouses of the Georgia Coast
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, May 6\, at 6 p.m.\, author William Rawlings will present a virtual program about his book Lighthouses of the Georgia Coast\, due to be released in April by Mercer University Press. The Society is thrilled that the St. Simons Lighthouse is on the cover. \nRawlings’ richly illustrated book devotes a chapter to each of Georgia’s five lighthouses\, exploring their unique styles and stories. “These magnificent structures continue to fascinate us\, not only for their intrinsic beauty\, but also as monuments of our shared history\,” notes the author. “From the mid-eighteenth through the early twentieth centuries\, they were an integral part of the state’s economy\, vital to trade in cotton\, rice\, timber\, naval stores\, and other products shipped to ports in America and around the world.” The book also includes information about lighthouse design and construction\, the role and legacy of the keepers\, and the strategic importance of the structures during the Civil War. \nA prolific writer of “Southern stories\,” Rawlings is the author of eleven books\, both fiction and nonfiction. He is a lifelong resident of Sandersville\, Georgia\, home to his family for more than two centuries. Now retired from his practice in internal medicine\, he was educated at Emory\, Tulane\, and Johns Hopkins Universities. Lighthouses of the Georgia Coast is his fifth work of nonfiction. \nThis virtual program is free and open to the public. To register\, visit EventBrite. A Zoom link to the lecture will be sent the week of the event.
