SUMMARY:Jekyll Island Treasures
DESCRIPTION:This two-month-long annual event on Jekyll Island is a favorite tradition spawned from a fishing legacy. \nIn the early 1900s\, east coast fishermen used hollow glass balls\, or floats\, on their nets as markers. Occasionally\, the floats would break loose and wash ashore for lucky beachcombers to find and keep. Collecting these rare\, highly sought after glass floats became a hobby in the 1950s. \nToday\, Jekyll Island hand-picks artists from across the country to create one-of-a-kind glass floats for its annual Island Treasures event. \nThe glass floats are part of a hide-and-seek style game played on Jekyll Island throughout January and February. Each day\, volunteers called Beach Buddies hide glass floats around the island for lucky guests to find and keep. \nEach float is marked with a special tag and instructions for treasure finders to register their Island Treasures at the Jekyll Island Guest Information Center where they will receive a certificate of authenticity and artist biography for their one-of-a-kind float. The Center is open Monday-Saturday\, 9am – 6pm and Sunday 10am – 5pm.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a lovely evening of boot scootin’ under the stars at the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia’s Blue Jean Ball fundraiser. The festivities will be hosted at Village Creek Landing on St. Simons Island. \nThe highlights include music\, local cuisine\, dancing\, and a silent and live auction. \nProceeds from this event help us provide care\, love\, and medical attention to over a thousand animals a year. \nParking at St. Simons Community Church\n(2700 Frederica Rd with shuttles to event) \nTickets can be purchased online; $175 per person. \nIn the event the Blue Jean Ball has to be cancelled due to inclement weather\, we will view your ticket purchase as a donation and the proceeds will go to the animals in our care. No refunds or credits will be given.

The course will also transport runners to an earlier time when they pass through the Jekyll Island Club National Historic Landmark. This landmark is one of the largest ongoing restoration projects in the southeastern United States and attracts visitors from around the world.
