Plan Your Visit To Neptune Park

A popular recreation spot for visitors to the Golden Isles, Neptune Park is the perfect place for family fun along the southern Georgia coast. The park is named for Neptune Small, a faithful servant of the Thomas Butler King family of Retreat Plantation (now the site of Sea Island Golf Course). During the Civil War, Small accompanied one of the King family sons, who was killed at the Battle of Fredericksburg. Small retrieved the body from the battleground for burial at Christ Church, and then elected to return to the battlefield with another son until the conflict’s end. A bronze plaque at the park commemorates the heroism of Neptune Small.

Today, Neptune Park is a favorite community gathering place, where residents and tourists of all ages can enjoy sun, fun, and natural recreation in the shadow of striking, centuries-old southern Live Oaks and the St. Simons Lighthouse. Located on the southern tip of St. Simons Island, the oceanfront park also provides the ideal setting for a scenic stroll between the St. Simons Fishing Pier and Pier Village areas. Neptune Park is perfectly situated with easy access to prominent local historic sites like Fort Frederica National Monument and nearby Jekyll Island.

Enjoying Neptune Park

Neptune Park is the site of many annual community events and live music performances at the onsite bandstand and expansive lawn. The park’s St. Simons Island Casino facility is available for rental, and equipped to accommodate private events like meetings, parties, and weddings.

The beach and pier areas provide excellent swimming, fishing, crabbing, bird watching, and beachcombing opportunities. Beach-goers are likely to encounter migratory wildlife like grackles, seagulls and pelicans, as well as treasures like whelks and sand dollars – especially at low-tide.

The park’s Fun Zone area is a summertime institution in the Golden Isles. The Fun Zone pool area includes a wading pool, lap lanes, and waterslides – constantly monitored by American Red Cross certified lifeguards.
