Hurricane Helene arrived in St. Simons the night of Thursday, Sept 26. The storm brought heavy winds and limited rain. The strongest wind gust was recorded on Jekyll Island at 78mph. Some homes near the coast had wind damage or fallen trees. Glynn County lost power Thursday night, with most of St. Simons restored on Sunday. Cellular service was lost Friday for several hours, and intermittent issues on some carriers continued for several days. Helene stayed west of Glynn County as forecast, and did more severe damage much further north of us.
